The Ile de la Cité

This area is an island in the Seine which hosted the first men in the early fifth millennium BC. It has become one of the most famous Gothic cathedrals: Notre-Dame de Paris, built between 1163 and 1345. It was restored between 1845 and 1865 by Viollet-Le-Duc, after suffering the degradation of Paris during the revolution.
This architect restored including the central spire, 90 meters high. Notre Dame measures 130 meters long, 48 meters wide and has a height of 35 meters below the ribbed vault. The facade of the cathedral is adorned with a large rose 10 meters in diameter, which overcomes three portals. These are the Resurrection, the Virgin and the theme of the novel Virgin with the Child on her lap. The transept also includes two windows and inlaid rosettes made in the thirteenth century.
La Conciergerie constituting the remains of the Royal Palace was transformed into prisonin 1392. There are still three major halls built in the fourteenth century by King The Good: the guardroom, the People weapon room and kitchen. This is Marie-Antoinette, who was one of the most popular prisoneers.
A church is also located in the Palais de Justice: the Sainte Chapelle. It was built by St Louis to receive the relics of the Passion and Cross Batie piece. It is composed of two chapels: the lower chapel of 6.6 meters high and the upper chapel measuring 20.65 meters high giving way to beautiful stained glass windows dating from the thirteenth century.
