The Eiffel Tower, Champ de Mars and Invalides

The Eiffel Tower was built on the Champ de Mars by Gustave Eiffel for the Universal Exhibition of 1889. It was built between 28 January 1887 and 31 March 1889. It was made of 18 000 metal parts linked together by 2.5 million rivets. It has a stairway of 1765 steps and 3 lifts. It measures 321 meters and weighs 7340 tons without adjustments. This is the most visited monument of France. In 1995 it hosted its 162,000,000 visitor.

The Trocadero is located in front of the Eiffel Tower; the Palais de Chaillot welcomes visitors there. The Hotel des Invalides is located at the end of the Champ de Mars. It was built under a royal decree of 24 May 1670. The facade is 210 meters long and hosts now the museum of weapons.

The church of St. Louis is located behind the hotel. This is a parallelepiped with a dome at high drum. Inside the church, in a crypt of 15 meters in diameter and 6 meters depth, there is the tomb of the first Emperor Napoleon.
